Background:

Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular protozoan parasite, it has been known associating with severe congenital defects and life threatening infection in immunocompromised hosts. In human, T. gondii infection in pregnant women can result in congenital infection, such as late-onset eye disease, it is also a frequent cause of encephalitis in AIDS patients; in animal, the infection can cause a variety diseases and symptoms. The major surface antigen 1 (SAG1 or P30) is a good candidate for diagnostic reagent to test T. gondii antibody IgG and IgM, and subunit vaccine development.
