Transports L-glutamate and also L- and D-aspartate. Essential for terminating the postsynaptic action of glutamate by rapidly removing released glutamate from the synaptic cleft. Acts as a symport by cotransporting sodium.

Lane 1: rat heart lysates Lane 2: rat brain lysates probed with Anti EAAT1/Glast Polyclonal Antibody, Unconjugated (bs-1003R) at 1:200 in 4˚C. Followed by conjugation to secondary antibody (bs-0295G-HRP) at 1:3000 90min in 37˚C. Predicted band 56kD. Observed band size: 56kD
