Background:

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family and the TGF-beta superfamily. This group of proteins is characterized by a polybasic proteolytic processing site which is cleaved to produce a mature protein containing seven conserved cysteine residues. The members of this family are regulators of cell growth and differentiation in both embryonic and adult tissues. This gene is thought to encode a secreted protein which negatively regulates skeletal muscle growth. Acts specifically as a negative regulator of skeletal muscle growth. [SUBUNIT] Homodimer; [TISSUE SPECIFICITY] Expressed specifically in developing and adult skeletal muscle. Weak expression in adipose tissue. Belongs to the TGF-beta family.

Formalin-fixed and paraffin embedded mouse small intestine labeled Anti-GDF8/MSTN Polyclonal Antibody, Unconjugated (bs-1288R) at 1:200, followed by conjugation to the secondary antibody and DAB staining


Mouse skeletal muscle lysate probed with Anti GDF8/MSTN Polyclonal Antibody, Unconjugated (bs-1288R) at 1:200 overnight at 4˚C. Followed by conjugation to secondary antibody (bs-0295G-HRP) at 1:3000 for 90 min at RT. Predicted band 43kD. Observed band size: 43kD


Generously provided by Bradley Elliott from University of Westminster as part of the Bioss Discovery Program. Lanes 1 and 2 are human muscle lysates and Lanes 3 and 4 are C2C12 cells. Rabbit Anti-GDF8/MSTN Polyclonal Antibody (bs-1288R) was used at a dilution of 1:1000, overnight at 4C.


Lane 1: Mouse Muscle lysates; Lane 2: Rat Muscle ysates; Lane 3: Rat Tongue lysates probed with GDF8/MSTN Polyclonal Antibody, Unconjugated (bs-1288R) at 1:1000 dilution and 4˚C overnight incubation. Followed by conjugated secondary antibody incubation at 1:20000 for 60 min at 37˚C.


Paraformaldehyde-fixed, paraffin embedded (Rat tongue); Antigen retrieval by boiling in sodium citrate buffer (pH6.0) for 15min; Block endogenous peroxidase by 3% hydrogen peroxide for 20 minutes; Blocking buffer (normal goat serum) at 37°C for 30min; Antibody incubation with (GDF8/MSTN ) Polyclonal Antibody, Unconjugated (bs-1288R) at 1:200 overnight at 4°C, followed by operating according to SP Kit(Rabbit) (sp-0023) instructionsand DAB staining.
